Privacy Policy

Kaalvit is operated by an independent developer based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This policy explains what information Kaalvit collects from the people who use it, why we collect it, and what we do with it. It is written in plain language and is meant to be read.
What we collect
You can use Kaalvit without giving us an email. Adding one is optional: if you do, we use it so you can recover or move your account to a new phone, and to let you know when someone accepts a match invite. We do not ask for a password. When you add an email, we send a one-time code to verify it, and another whenever you sign in on a new device.
To compute your readings, we ask for your date, time, and place of birth, and your current location. If you want to check a chart for someone else, including a child whose kundli you are looking at, we ask for the same details about them.
In the background, the app generates an anonymous device identifier on first launch and stores it locally. If you grant permission for push notifications, we also keep a push token that lets us deliver your morning reading.
If you use the daily reflection, an optional one-tap note on how your day went, we store what you choose to enter: a rating from one to five, and a short free-text note if you add one. You write these for yourself, and they stay attached to your account. You can change or clear a day's reflection at any time, and deleting your account removes them along with everything else.
To understand how Kaalvit is used and where it falls short, we record first-party usage events: which screens you open, when you open a notification, when you tap share, and where you are in onboarding. These are tied to your anonymous device account and carry no message content or personal text. They live on our own servers and are never sent to a third-party analytics service.
At the free tier we do not collect payment information. We do not access your contacts, photos, microphone, calendar, or any other system data. We do not run third-party analytics.
What we do with it
Your birth details are used to compute your natal chart, your running Vimshottari dasha, and your daily reading. Your current location is used to compute today's panchang and gochar for where you are now. Your email, if you add one, is used for sign-in, account recovery, and to let you know when someone accepts a match invite. Your push token is used to deliver the once-a-day reading notification. Your reflections, if you log them, are kept so you can look back on them and, in a later version of the app, so it can surface patterns in how your days have gone over time.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it to train any model.
Where it lives
Your data is stored and processed by the following services, each acting as a processor under our instructions:
Neon (Postgres database, AWS Singapore region) holds the rows that make up your account and chart. Fly.io (Singapore region) runs the backend that computes your reading each morning. Expo Push Service relays push notifications to Apple's APNs and Google's FCM for delivery to your device.
Because these services run in Singapore and the United States, your data may be transferred across borders in the course of normal operation, regardless of where you are.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and birth details for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from within the app, which removes your row and all associated readings from our database. Backups are pruned on a rolling basis after that. Children's charts
Kaalvit is not designed for use by children. If you provide birth details for another person, including a child, you represent that you have the authority to do so. We treat those details with the same care as your own, and we do not knowingly market to or profile children based on charts entered by their parents.
Your rights
You can read the data we have about you (the app shows you most of it directly; the rest is available on request), correct any detail that is wrong (the settings screen lets you edit birth details and current location at any time), and delete your account and all associated data from within the app.
If you are an Indian resident, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 gives you additional rights to access, correct, and erase your data, and to nominate someone to exercise those rights on your behalf. If you are in the UAE, the Personal Data Protection Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021) gives you comparable rights. If you are in the EU or UK, the GDPR applies and gives you the right to object to processing and to data portability in addition to the rights above. Security
Your data travels over HTTPS and is stored encrypted at rest by our database and hosting providers. No system is perfectly secure; we work to keep this one as close to that bar as is practical.
Changes
If we change this policy in any meaningful way, the "Last updated" date at the top will reflect that, and material changes will be flagged in-app when you next open Kaalvit.
